  96.        This section lists the subsystems (and their sizes) of the
  97.        IRIS InSight software.

  99.        You can use the software installation instructions in the
  100.        _P_e_r_s_o_n_a_l _S_y_s_t_e_m _A_d_m_i_n_i_s_t_r_a_t_i_o_n _G_u_i_d_e to install this
  101.        product.  If you are installing this software for the first
  102.        time, the default subsystems are installed if you click the
  103.        _I_n_s_t_a_l_l _A_u_t_o_m_a_t_i_c_a_l_l_y button.  To install a different set of
  104.        subsystems, click the _C_u_s_t_o_m_i_z_e _I_n_s_t_a_l_l_a_t_i_o_n button and make
  105.        your new selections.  Then click the _S_t_a_r_t button to launch
  106.        the installation.

  145.        All of the subsystems for IRIS InSight can be installed
  146.        using IRIX.  You do not need to use the miniroot. Refer to
  147.        the _S_o_f_t_w_a_r_e _I_n_s_t_a_l_l_a_t_i_o_n _A_d_m_i_n_i_s_t_r_a_t_o_r'_s _G_u_i_d_e or the
  148.        installation instructions in the _P_e_r_s_o_n_a_l _S_y_s_t_e_m

  152.        2.4  _P_r_e_r_e_q_u_i_s_i_t_e_s
  153.  
  154.        Your workstation must be running release 4D1-5.3 in order to
  155.        use release 2.3 of IRIS InSight.
  156.  
  157.        If you want to install the IRIS InSight viewer
  158.        (_i_n_s_i_g_h_t._s_w._c_l_i_e_n_t) then you must also install _x__e_o_e._s_w._e_o_e,
  159.        _m_o_t_i_f__e_o_e._s_w._e_o_e, _e_o_e_1._s_w._i_r_i_x__l_i_b,
  160.        _d_m_e_d_i_a__e_o_e._s_w._c_o_m_p_r_e_s_s_i_o_n, _d_m_e_d_i_a__e_o_e._s_w._c_o_m_m_o_n,
  161.        _d_m_e_d_i_a__e_o_e._s_w._a_u_d_i_o, _c_o_m_p_i_l_e_r__e_o_e._s_w._l_i_b, _c++__e_o_e._s_w._l_i_b,

  163.        If you want to view any of the inline Inventor media objects
  164.        then you must install _i_n_v_e_n_t_o_r__e_o_e._s_w._i_n_v_e_n_t_o_r.  If you want
  165.        to view any of the inline movie objects then you must
  166.        install _e_o_e_1._s_w._g_f_x__l_i_b. If you want to install the online
  167.        help (_i_n_s_i_g_h_t._b_o_o_k_s._h_e_l_p) for the IRIS InSight viewer then
  168.        you must install _i_n_s_i_g_h_t._s_w._s_g_i_h_e_l_p along with the viewer.

  170.        If you wish to install the SGIHelp/XHELP Developer's kit
  171.        then you will need to install _i_n_s_t__d_e_v._s_w._b_a_s_e, and
  172.        _d_e_v._s_w._m_a_k_e which are part of IDO in order to build instable
  173.        images.  If you simply want to build the samples without
  174.        building images then you don't need these subsystems.

  176.        2.5  _C_o_m_p_a_t_i_b_i_l_i_t_y
  177.  
  178.        The IRIS InSight 2.X viewers are incompatible with the IRIS
  179.        InSight 1.0 books.  You will not be able to install the
  180.        older 1.0 books after a 2.X viewer is installed, due to
  181.        incompatibility rules during installation.  However, we have
  182.        no means of preventing users from mounting 1.0 books onto a
  183.        2.X viewer's filesystem.

  200.        It is also possible to mount and access the 5.3 books from a
  201.        5.2 system, however the help for applications may not work
  202.        due to changes in the applications and documentation between
  203.        the two operating systems.  The same is also true for 5.2
  204.        help books being accessed from 5.3 applications.

  206.        2.6  _O_t_h_e_r__I_n_s_t_a_l_l_a_t_i_o_n__I_n_f_o_r_m_a_t_i_o_n

  208.        You can install IRIS InSight in four configurations:
  209.  
  210.           +o Local client and server
  211.  
  212.           +o Client with remote server
  213.  
  214.           +o Client with server on CD-ROM
  215.  
  216.           +o Creating an InSight document server
  217.  
  218.           +o Client accessing books from multiple locations
  219.  
  220.        Important: Please read this section carefully. It details
  221.                   installation information specific to the IRIS
  222.                   InSight product.
  223.  
  224.        2.6.1  _L_o_c_a_l__C_l_i_e_n_t__a_n_d__S_e_r_v_e_r  The default installation
  225.        configuration is to install the IRIS InSight Viewer and
  226.        Document Library on a single system.  The total size of the
  227.        viewer, glossary, and help is a little more than 11 Mb.
  228.        Installing additional books requires additional disk space.
  229.        If you have the disk space, this is the ideal configuration
  230.        since it gives the viewer fastest access to the book data.
  231.        See the Release Notes for products that contain books to
  232.        find out the disk space requirements for each book.
  233.  
  234.        2.6.2  _C_l_i_e_n_t__w_i_t_h__R_e_m_o_t_e__S_e_r_v_e_r  If several machines plan
  235.        on sharing all the books via NFS mounts then this is the
  236.        configuration of choice.  To install the IRIS InSight Viewer
  237.        and Document Library on a remote server and access the
  238.        information from a local client system, follow these steps:
  239.

  243.                    and all books.

  282.        Note:  If you have a version of the IRIS InSight Document
  283.               Library installed on your disk but want to mount the
  284.               books from the CD-ROM, you must remove all the
  285.               current IRIS InSight books (with the IRIX command
  286.               _v_e_r_s_i_o_n_s _r_e_m_o_v_e) from your system and remove any
  287.               remaining files in /_u_s_r/_s_h_a_r_e/_I_n_s_i_g_h_t/_l_i_b_r_a_r_y before
  288.               creating the symbolic link described in step 2.

  290.        If you wish to use the IRIS InSight Viewer and Document
  291.        Library from the CD-ROM and access the information from a
  292.        local or remote system, follow these steps:
  293.  
  294.          1.  On the system with the CD-ROM drive, insert the IRIS
  295.              InSight CD into the CD-ROM drive.
  296.  
  297.              If the drive is not mounted, use the System Manager to
  298.              mount the drive.  The most common mount point is
  299.              /_C_D_R_O_M.
  300.  
  301.              If the drive is mounted correctly, you should be able
  302.              to change directories to /_C_D_R_O_M and see all the files
  303.              in the IRIS InSight CD:

  400.        For sites with numerous IRIS machines running multiple
  401.        versions of the operating system, it may be advantageous to
  402.        devote one machine to being an InSight Document Server.
  403.        This server would contain all the books for the various OS
  404.        releases, and the clients would simply NFS mount the
  405.        appropriate books and help from that server.
  406.  
  407.        To create a document server, start by installing the version
  408.        of InSight and all the books for the oldest OS version that
  409.        any client machine will want to mount.  For instance, if the
  410.        server will contain the 4.0.5, 5.2, and 5.3 books, then
  411.        install the 4.0.5 version of InSight and the 4.0.5 books
  412.        first.
  413.  
  414.        For 4.0.5 the books are installed in /_u_s_r/_I_n_s_i_g_h_t/_l_i_b_r_a_r_y.
  415.        After they are installed move the "library" directory to
  416.        "4.0.5library" so that the next install doesn't remove the
  417.        books.  Later on after you have installed the other OS
  418.        bookshelves you may want to move the "4.0.5library"
  419.        directory to the location that the other library directories
  420.        will be under /_u_s_r/_s_h_a_r_e/_I_n_s_i_g_h_t.

  426.        Next install the 5.2 versions of InSight and the books.
  427.        Under 5.2 the books were installed in
  428.        /_u_s_r/_s_h_a_r_e/_I_n_s_i_g_h_t/_l_i_b_r_a_r_y.  So after you have installed all
  429.        the 5.2 books you need to move the "library" directory to
  430.        "5.2library".  For 5.2 we added application specific help so
  431.        you also need to preserve the helpmap files that are
  432.        specific to 5.2 applications so go to /_u_s_r/_s_h_a_r_e and move
  433.        the "help" directory to "5.2help".
